Miguel Matos is a Portuguese perfumer, journalist, and critic who transitioned from covering the fragrance industry as an editor for Fragrantica to creating his own compositions. He is largely self-taught, having developed his craft through extensive study and experimentation before collaborating with established niche houses such as Nishane, Sarah Baker Perfumes, and Papillon Artisan Perfumes.

His signature style is often characterized by bold, artistic, and sometimes vintage-inspired compositions that frequently explore animalic notes, rich florals, and unconventional accords. Among his most well-known works are his collaborations for his own brand, Miguel Matos Perfumes, as well as his notable creations like Nishane’s Tempfluo and various scents for the independent niche market.
