Henri Robert
Henri Robert (1899–1987) was a prominent French perfumer who succeeded Ernest Beaux as the in-house nose for Chanel in 1958. Before joining Chanel, he spent significant time working for the fragrance house Rallet, where he honed his technical precision and mastery of raw materials. His tenure at Chanel was marked by a commitment to elegance and the refinement of the brand's sophisticated identity.
Robert is best known for composing several enduring Chanel classics, including Chanel No. 19, Pour Monsieur, and Cristalle. His signature style was characterized by a distinct sense of structural balance, often utilizing green, floral, and woody notes to create fragrances that were both understated and intellectually composed. His work remains a cornerstone of mid-20th-century French perfumery.
