Joanne Malone, known professionally as Jo Malone, is a British perfumer and entrepreneur who began her career as a facialist. She gained international recognition for founding her eponymous brand, Jo Malone London, which she later sold to Estée Lauder Companies in 1999. Her early work was characterized by a minimalist approach to fragrance, focusing on high-quality, singular ingredients and the concept of "fragrance combining," which encouraged users to layer scents to create personalized olfactory profiles.
After a period away from the industry, she returned to perfumery by launching a new venture, Jo Loves, in 2011. Throughout her career, she has been celebrated for her ability to translate memories and personal experiences into accessible, clean, and often citrus-forward compositions. Her most iconic creations during her tenure at her original house include Lime Basil & Mandarin, Pomegranate Noir, and Orange Blossom, all of which remain staples in the modern fragrance landscape.
