Marcel Carles
Marcel Carles was a distinguished French perfumer who spent the majority of his career working for the fragrance house Roure (now Givaudan) in Grasse. He is perhaps best known for his long-standing collaboration with the house of Dana, where he created the iconic fragrance Tabu in 1932, a scent that became renowned for its bold, oriental, and spicy composition.
In addition to his work on Tabu, Carles was a key figure in mid-20th-century perfumery, contributing to the development of several other fragrances for Dana, including 20 Carats and Emir. His work is often characterized by a rich, opulent use of ingredients that defined the glamorous olfactory landscape of his era.
