Paul Leger
Paul Leger was a prominent perfumer associated with the storied French fragrance house Givaudan. Throughout his career, he contributed to the development of numerous commercial and fine fragrances, working primarily during the mid-20th century. He is perhaps best known for his collaboration on the original formulation of Yves Saint Laurent's Rive Gauche, released in 1971, which remains a landmark scent in the aldehyde floral category.
His body of work reflects the technical precision and compositional rigor characteristic of the Givaudan school during that era. Beyond his work for YSL, Leger contributed to various projects within the industry that defined the stylistic trends of the 1960s and 1970s, establishing a reputation for balancing complex floral structures with sophisticated, modern synthetic accords.
